Description
This is the result of a second challenge with the ever-creative ~Tevarro . The rules: Draw something related to a story formed my some given key elements. Let me tell you, it's not always easy.
Let me try and get into storyteller-mode:
Once upon a time, in a faraway land of high mountains, ruled a king. He was not a bad nor evil king, in fact he was a fair judge of the needs of the people. But the king faced a threat to the land, the peace, and the lives of his people. Old as time and just as unforgiving were they, the dragons. Each year they required a human sacrifice of their choosing to be brought to their caves in the mountains, and if this requirement was met, they would let the people more or less in peace. They were feared, but respected and even worshiped by some in the kingdom and over time the sacrificing had become tradition.
The King had one daughter, the princess, and she was a beauty to behold. He had high hopes for her future marriage and groom and hoped that this would be the chance to send her to a faraway land, for he feared that she might end up a sacrifice. Unfortunately the princess had other plans. She fell in love with a simple peasant from the town, a merchant's helper, and would not listen to her father's reasoning. They got married in secret.
And so the old King had to take matters into his own hands. He had the boy caught and bound and his body painted in the markings reserved for the human sacrifice. The he strung him up outside the dragons' cave. Now maybe the princess would see reason. And the odd timing of the sacrifice might even appease the dragons further, he hoped.

So yeah, a fairytale! I love fairytales, always have. This one is a little dark. And the fact that I am NOT accustomed to drawing dragons didn't make this challenge less difficult (...so I just sort of hid it away). But it was still quite fun!
I took this as a chance to practice some more with my markers and play around with composition a little bit. Still not entirely my forte, but I tried and I'm not disappointed. It might be the stepping stone to even better pieces!

Yipes! What a dark tale indeed! Although your premise would be a fun one to elaborate on even more. It's got my writing brain twirling. Too bad I don't have much time right now, but if it keeps going I might have to write it to get it out.
